Welcome to Dale May, State Farm, where your needs come first!

Let’s look at how we can prepare for sever weather. 🌪️

1. ⚠️Stay Informed⚠️

· Weather Alerts: Sign up for local weather alerts through apps, NOAA Weather Radio 📻, or local news channels, like WSFA & WAKA. Also, join the Facebook page so you will know when they go live on there.

· Understand Warnings vs. Watches: A WATCH means conditions are favorable for severe weather, while a WARNING means severe weather is occurring or imminent.

2. 🚨Emergency Kit🚨

· Basic Supplies: Pack an emergency kit with at least a three-day supply of food and water (one gallon per person per day), flashlights, batteries, a first-aid kit, and necessary medications.

· Important Documents: Keep copies of important documents (insurance, identification, medical records) in a waterproof container.

· Cash 💵: Have some cash on hand, as ATMs🏧 may be unavailable during and after severe weather.

3. 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦 Create a Family Emergency Plan👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

· Communication Plan: Establish a plan for how your family will communicate and where you will meet if separated.

· Safe Locations: Identify safe spots in your home for shelter during severe weather (e.g., an interior room or basement for tornadoes).

· Evacuation Routes: Know your local evacuation routes and have a plan in place if you need to leave your home.

4. 🏠Home Preparedness🏠

· 🌲Secure Property:🌳Trim trees and remove debris around your property that could become projectiles during a storm.

· Check Insurance Coverage: Review your home and auto insurance policies to ensure you have adequate coverage for storm damage, including wind and flood damage.

· Install Storm Shutters: If you live in a hurricane-prone area, consider installing storm shutters or boarding up windows.

5. 🚗Prepare Your Vehicle🚙

· Emergency Kit for Your Car: Keep a vehicle emergency kit, including water, snacks, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, and a blanket.

· Fuel Up: Keep your gas tank at least half full during severe weather season.

6. 🏘️Community Resources🤝

· Know Local Shelters: Familiarize yourself with local emergency shelters and community resources available in your community.

· Volunteer Organizations: Get involved with local organizations that assist during emergencies, such as the Red Cross.

7. ⚠️Practice Drills🚨

· Regular Drills: Conduct regular emergency drills with your family to ensure everyone knows what to do in case of severe weather.

· Discuss Scenarios: Talk about different scenarios and how to respond, such as what to do if a tornado warning is issued.

8. 🌦️Post-Storm Safety☀️

· After a storm, be cautious of hazards like downed power lines, gas leaks, and flooded areas. Follow local authorities' guidance regarding safety and recovery.
